ISIS Destroy Tomb of Prophet Yunus to cite Playground



baghdad Iraqi government on Saturday (20/06/2015), calling plans Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) change the location of the tomb of the prophet Jonah in Mosul into a park as a crime against the historical heritage of Iraq.
Qais Hussain, deputy minister of archeology and tourism, told the daily Al-Sumaria News said the government has a plan to the site of the tomb of Jonah after retake Mosul from ISIS hand.
"Currently, there are committees that work to minimize the damage done to historic sites," said Hussain.
Hussain's comments came after a news spread that ISIS began leveling the tomb of the prophet Jonah and the neighborhood began to turn it into a playground. ISIS even reportedly been "invited" several companies to work on the project.
The location of the tomb is located in the northern region of Mosul controlled by ISIS since June last year. So far, government forces backed Shiite armed militias has not managed to recapture the town which became the main base of ISIS in Iraq.
Last week, a military official said the operation to retake Mosul has begun. However, until now, no official news emerged related to the results of the military operation.
